MEET SHAWN DUONG
Shawn Duong was born on a glorious summer day of 1988 in Vietnam, he later then moved to the States at the age of four. Shawn was introduced to dance at a young age by watching videos of the legendary Michael Jackson, where he would imitate his robotic moves and glides. It wasn't until his freshman year of high school where he began to get serious about dance. Shawn along side with his older brother Tuan and good friend Chris Bitun started their very own dance team made of just the three of them called Surreal, where they would perform at their school's pep rallies and other events. He later then joined Velocity Dance Troupe in 2003, Kaba Kids in 2005, and is now currently dancing for the Kaba Modern, where he is reaching his oldie (third) year. After all of his intense dance life he wishes to continue school at The Art Institute of California in Costa Mesa, where he would get his BA in Media Arts and Animation. However, Shawn still hopes to continue to dance until the day he expires. Word

Jan. 19-22: Jayson Wright and Miguel Antonio

MEET JAYSON WRIGHT

Ask anyone these days and they’ll agree that good talent is hard to find. More often, style and class have taken a back seat to watered-down, over-commercialized hype. When Andy Warhol said “Everyone will have 15 minutes of fame”, who knew it would happen in this lifetime. But in the midst of madness there’s always that something, or someone, that brings the soul back to life, giving the optimism that all good things don’t necessarily come to an end.

That’s what Jayson Wright brings, a mixed bag of creative choreography that embodies the definition of smooth. He combines the perfect blend of his soul-filled southern roots with precise timing and effortless flow, influencing many of today’s working dancers and choreographers.

Over his 20 plus years as a dancer/choreographer, Jayson has preserved all the right ingredients, and crafted his talent into world-wide recognition. His résumé reads like a “Who’s Who” of entertainment, working with the likes of Elton John, Pink, Marques Houston, Justin Timberlake, Tweet, Donnell Jones, and Jay-Z for starters. He’s appeared on the MTV Video Music Awards, the Tonight Show starring Jay Leno, and Nickelodeon’s Teen Choice Awards. His commercial list includes Sprite, Sony, Bacardi, and Coors Light. His tireless work as teacher and mentor also make Jayson one of the most influential figures throughout the international dance community.

There’s no doubt to the history or longevity of Jayson’s journey. His creativity continues to evolve and inspire each generation, while solidifying him as a bridge between the foundation of the past and the ever changing future.
